2015 is well underway and the festive period seems like a distant memory. I am already looking forward to another holiday!
So here are my tips to get organised and areas to look at this year to get your financial situation in order.
1. REVIEW YOUR MORTGAGE
Could you pay less than you are now? Worried about the impact of potential interest rate rises? Do you have an interest only mortgage? Thinking it is time to fix your rate? Thinking of moving?
It does not take long for an expert to have a look at your situation and see if any savings or adjustments can be made.
Book your free mortgage review now by calling 0844 736 1920 or by clicking HERE to REQUEST A CALL BACK.
2. REVIEW YOUR LIFE ASSURANCE
Have you got married? Changed your mortgage recently? Had more children? Started a family? And not updated your life assurance?
If you want to make sure you have the right cover for the right price for your current situation, then you need to book your free review now by calling 0844 736 1920 or by clicking HERE to REQUEST A CALL BACK.
3. REVIEW YOUR BUILDINGS & CONTENTS INSURANCE
There may be money to be saved here but it is equally important that you have the right cover for what you need - with a company that is going to pay out when you need it. Cheap can often mean that claims are not paid.
Welcome Mortgage Solutions Ltd will soon be moving into this area and I am busy arranging terms for us to offer policies through Halifax, Legal & General, Aviva, LV, RSA, Axa, Ageas, Zurich and many other top insurance companies. I hope to have this finalised by the end of the month so watch this space for more details.
You can register your interest in getting a comparison quote prior to your renewal date by completing the short form HERE.
4. PAY OFF THOSE CREDIT CARDS
Work out a realistic budget and put as much money towards paying these off as you possibly can. You could consider a loan to pay them off quicker or even consolidating your debt into the mortgage. (But this puts your home as risk if you do not keep up repayments)
5. WORK OUT A SPENDING BUDGET AND STICK TO IT
Spend an hour going through your finances and list what comes in and what goes out. Check your bank statements to make sure you are being accurate and not kidding yourself as to what you spend and where! Decide how much you can spend each week and try to live to that amount. Cut out everything you don't really need. Easier said than done I know!!
6. CHECK YOUR CREDIT FILE
Go to Experian or Equifax and obtain a copy of your credit file. Make sure you are registered on the voters roll and check that the credit you have listed is accurate. Make sure you cancel any credit that you are no longer using as this could harm your rating.
If you are worried about your credit rating, give me call on 0844 736 1920 or see my previous posts on this site - "How to Make Yourself More Mortgageable".
7. MAKE A WILL
This is always one of the things that seems to get put off and continually placed on the "To Do List" without ever getting done. However, it is important to ensure that your hard-earned money is passed to the right people - who you want it to go to - if you were to die.
We have partnered with Redstone Wills to provide a will writing service completed over the phone and through the post. So there are now no excuses to keep putting this off as you don't have to leave your home to get this sorted!
For further information on how to make a will, please call 0844 736 1920 or complete the form HERE to register your interest and get a call back.
I hope this helps to remind you of the things to look at this year to get your finances sorted and watch this space for more details of our Buildings & Contents launch in the coming weeks.
May your 2015 be prosperous.
